What type of camcorder should a traveller get?
OK. I am from the U.S., and I will be going on a tour to Dubai, Singapore, and Mauritius. I need a camcorder that is able to play back its recorded videos by connecting it directly to the TVs in these places, all of which use different TV color systems. So what type of camcorder is best for me? My first preference is a MiniDV type camcorder.

For you the most convenient will be HDD type camcorder. Don’t worry about the format (PAL or NSTC), because now a days most of the TVs support both the formats. You can use Sony DCR-SR-40.

Mauritius or South America? Where would you rather go on a tour with your school and why?

Depends actually. There are several factors to consider.
Both have unique cultures (which again depends, although in the general sense they do). However, Mauritius has the more untouched feeling. Separated from much of the world, it proves to be more distinct, per se, and the beaches in Mauritius are to die for.
Latin America, for me, is more congested and commercialized.
